Surt, the City of Bronze
Name: Surt
Description: The “City of Bronze” (appellate pending). Surt is the capital town of the Fire Elves, located in the northern corner of the Burning Maar, in a valley just lined on three sides by mountain peaks. Size: Town
Misc:
Territory Aspects:
- Burning Maar: Surt exists on the Burning Maar, a wide stretch of extremely volcanically active badlands.
- Sulphur: The volcanic terrain around Surt is a good source of sulphur
- All Roads lead to Surt: Clever road designed has insured easy connections between Surt and its adjacent settlements; all settlements within 3 pathfound squares of Surt share this aspect.
- First Invoked Spring Year 3
- [Civ Aspect] Fortified Roadways: Guardposts, bunkers, and defensive emplacements along the roadways help defend all traffic from bandits, animals, and raiders. This provides 1 automatic setback die to any enemy attempting to attack Surtian infrastructure in territories with this aspect. Settlements connected by All Roads Lead to Surt and with a defensive aspect of their own automatically gain this aspect. This counts as All Roads Lead to Surt for invocation purposes.
Settlement Aspects:
- Defensive Wall: Surt is currently surrounded by a defensive wall. It’s a very simple structure, but still quite functional.
- Verdant Rooftop Gardens: Vineyards, cropland, and parks, built into the very rooftops of Surt’s buildings, providing a regular supply of produce to Surt’s citizenry. Once per year, provides 1 bonus die to a check relating to food or plant life.
- Fresh Mint -- Curiously Alchemical: A standard mint, primarily focused around gold coin production, featuring an unusually red gold medium (with some alchemical components added in) and some notoriously typoed coinage. The currency produced is very hard to counterfeit, and can be used in spellcasting and magic item creation.
Gerdr
Name: Gerdr
Description: The first Fire Elf village to be founded beyond Surt, Gerdr is named for an ancient elven hero who once stood against a Lycan-like figure. The village is built around a sheltered cove that provides convenient access to the nearby lake
Size: Village
Territory Aspects:
- Volcanic Badlands: The terrain around Gedr is the same as the rest of the dangerous, unstable terrain around the Maar.
- Fortified Cove: Gerdr exists atop a very large slab of granite, surrounded by several granite ridges that extend into the Maar itself. This makes the ground that Gerdr is built on a bit more stable than the rest of the Maar, as well as providing some amount of shelter from the harsh air and water in the area. The cove has been surrounded by Gerdr’s defensive wall, providing a safe area large enough to park a River Elf flotilla that can still be sealed off with heavy gates.
- All Roads lead to Surt: Clever road designed has insured easy connections between Surt and its adjacent settlements; all settlements within 3 pathfound squares of Surt share this aspect.
[Civ Aspect] Fortified Roadways: Guardposts, bunkers, and defensive emplacements along the roadways help defend all traffic from bandits, animals, and raiders. Settlement Aspects:
- Defensive Wall: Gerdr is surrounded by a defensive wall, based around the settlement’s granite foundation, and encircling the cove

Disr
Name: Disr
Description: Named for a mythological, flying guardian of the dead, Disr is Surt’s first “mountainous” village, built on the side of a mountain locally called “Pegasus Back”. Significant architectural effort has been put in to provide a stable foundation for the village’s buildings, as well as the main thoroughfare that connects to the main Surtian road, which connects to ground level through a series of switchbacks arcing around the mountain’s foot. Most of the buildings are built from the mountain’s granite. Some are even carved directly into the mountain itself.
Size: Village
Territory Aspects:
- Gold Mine: Literally a gold mine. Nice!
- Low Mountains: Disr is located just above the foothills, nestled in the lowest part of the northern mountain range that can actually be called “mountains.”
- All Roads lead to Surt: Clever road designed has insured easy connections between Surt and its adjacent settlements; all settlements within 3 pathfound squares of Surt share this aspect.
- Aegis: A heavy front gatehouse, guarding the roadway leading from the village to the foot of the Pegasus Back. Combined with careful clearing of the rest of the mountainside, and the short wall running along the plateau’s edge, it forms the village’s central point of defense, as well as its primary watchtower.
